Following the old route of the N22 west-south-westward out of Cork city through Greenmount, Glasheen, and Ballincollig, the R608 runs from Washington Street, close to the current eastern terminus of the N22 to a dumbbell junction with the same national road, some 12 km out of the city at the western end of the Ballincollig bypass (2004), where the N22 is today a high-quality dual-carriageway route.
An amended OpenStreetMap trace for this route awaits uploading to the SABRE Wiki.
