Shieldhall Roundabout lies between the Braehead Retail Park and Shieldhall Industrial Estate and gives access to both from the A8. It marks a change from the old industrial areas associated with the docks along the Clyde to the redevelopment that brought the massive Braehead centre to what had become an industrial wasteland. The A8 is dualled through the junction, running close alongside the M8 motorway which took over as the main route west from Glasgow. In the past, the A8 approached from the north here, along Renfrew Road, when it was routed through the docks area, but it now follows a straighter route along Shieldhall Road.
The fourth arm of the roundabout is Kings Inch Drive, which leads into Braehead, a massive shopping Mall and retail park developed to serve the south and west of Glasgows large urban area. Whilst the retail park is served by a spur direct from the M8, and an extension of the A736, this entrance can still be busy, proving more direct from the Drumoyne and Govan districts.
