For the junction on the A78, at the southern end of the Irvine bypass, with the A737 and B7080, see Newhouse Interchange.
Newhouse Junction is junction 6 of the M8, located at the point where it crosses the A73. It was newly built with the Motorway in the late 1960s, effectively replacing the old roundabout, which survives, a short distance to the south on the old A8. The junction is a large roundabout interchange set below the motorway, and was enlarged in 2016 when additional carriageways were built on either side of the M8 to provide east facing slips for the nearby Chapelhall Junction which was completely rebuilt when the A8 was upgraded to motorway. Prior to this, the motorway had terminated at this junction, with the all-purpose A8 continuing west. The new design means that the west facing slips still connect to the A8, with the parallel carriageways located on either side of the motorway. These lead to the new Chapelhall Junction, where traffic can access the western M8, movements which are not possible at the Newhouse Junction.
