Bargeddie Junction

The northern roundabout

Bargeddie Junction connects the A8 and A752 near Bargeddie, effectively a suburb of Coatbridge. It is a folded dumbbell layout, with the sliproads all on the eastern side of the A752. However, due to the constraints of the site, the two roundabouts lie at some distance from the A8, with the sliproads curving tightly to run parallel to the A752, before more tight turns as they split to join the A8. above. Fortunately, lengthy acceleration and deceleration lanes are provided on the A8 itself. This layout has become more unusual since the M8 was completed in the area, as at this point a new, offline, carriageway was built to the south of the A8, requiring two bridges, one over the A752 and one over the westbound slips. At the same time, the southern junction was converted to a mini roundabout, having previously been a simple T junction. No connection to the new motorway was provided at this location, however, traffic using the A8 to reach the motorway at neighbouring junctions.

Since the junction was originally constructed, a fourth arm has been added to the northern roundabout (it is probable that this was also originally a T junction). This is a dual carriageway access into the Coatbridge Leisure complex, with cinema, bowling alley and restaurants.
