Roads

Roads in the CAR are in extremly poor condition and are impassable in the rainy season, there is only approximately 2000 vehicles registered in the country, road traffic is virtually non existent, there is less than 600 miles of paved roads.

No new road construction projects have occurred since 2013 due to the civil war, with the exception of paving a small section of the N3 near the border with Cameroon to allow traffic from Bangui to Yaounde to travel on paved roads.

There are no toll roads in South Sudan.

There is an unbuilt bridge in Mobaye which would of carried the RN9 across the Ubangi River onto the RN24 in Democratic Republic of Congo, but was abandoned and never built, with only the pillars remaining.

Highway numbering

RN1, RN2 and RN6 radiate out from Bangui, RN3, RN4, RN5, RN8 and RN9 branch off the other RN routes, RN10 and RN11 are less important, even though RN10 is an international connection, there is no traffic on this route and is difficult for even motorcycles to pass.

The RN7 does not exist.

Local roads

Local roads are usually impassable, some local roads have the prefix 'RR'.

Speed limits

Speed limits are not known.
