Guernsey's road network has a hierarchy of quality:
Inter Harbour HGV Route: Links St Sampson's and St Peter Port Harbours and must be able to accommodate full sized HGVs and very high traffic flows.
Traffic Priority Routes: Have high traffic flows (600-1400 vehicles per hour), forming main distributors across the island. Need to be able to deal with 9T trucks.
Local Circulation Routes: Back up the Traffic Priority Routes, with lower traffic flows and significant frontages, but with some through traffic to deal with.
Neighbourhood and Country Roads: Residential roads and Rural lanes.
