Dewsbury is a large market town in the West Riding of Yorkshire. Its non-trunk road network is maintained by Kirklees Metropolitan Borough Council. It was an important mill town.

History

Inner Ring Road

The 0.6 mile final section from the Wellington Road Railway Station to Wakefield Road then Vicarage Road was opened on 10 August 1987 by George and Joan Speight, Mayor and Mayoress of Kirklees. Total cost of the Ring Road was £6.5 million.

Southern Bypass

Stage 1 was planned between Vicarage Road (on Inner Ring Road) to Leeds Road at the western end of the Flushdyke Diversion (which was then under construction).
