All Saints Interchange is a junction in West Bromwich.
History
The junction was built as a flat roundabout in the early 1970s as part of the A41 West Bromwich bypass called The Expressway. It had provision for future grade separation from the outset.
In the late 1980s the Black Country Spine Road was being planned as a westwards continuation of The Expressway and all its junctions were to be grade separated. The roundabout at All Saints Way would also have been grade separated to allow a completely freeflowing route. Rising costs meant the grade separation was abandoned in favour of flat roundabouts and the junction at All Saints Way remained unchanged.
In 2010 planning permission was granted for a new shopping development to the south of the junction which includes a large supermarket. An expected increase in traffic created by the development resulted in an underpass being planned as part of the work, partly funded by the operator of the supermarket. The underpass opened in 2012 but was closed in early 2014 for several weeks due to defects with the road surface.
