The Ashley Heath Roundabout opened in 1969 with the Bournemouth Spur Road. It replaced a T-junction between Ringwood Road (the A31) and Horton Road.
When it opened space was left for an underpass, which wasn't built until the 1990s. Until then the A31 still passed all the houses to St Leonards, so the opportunity to slow traffic down may have been appreciated.
The street St Ives Woods was built in the 1960s with space left for the roundabout.
A Department for Transport weighbridge is provided in the corner of the junction.
