The B6531 was the A69 into Hexham from the west before the latter road was diverted via the bypass in the 1980s.
The road starts by turning off the A69 at the western end of the bypass; that road is still D2 at this point. We head southeastwards across the fields then the road gets a surprisingly wide right-hand verge opposite a cemetery. There is no evidence the road was ever dualled.
The wide verge continues as we pass a golf course and ends as the road becomes lined with houses. We continue ahead and end at traffic lights on the B6305; that road continues ahead along the former A69 into the town centre.
