Brooklands station on the would-be B6544 (present A6144)
The B6544 number was allocated to that part of the A6144 bypassed by the A6144(M). However, the road kept its Class I status instead so the B6544 number has not actually been used.
The road would have started to the west of Ashton upon Mersey where the A6144 turned into the A6144(M) and then headed east into town. After running to the south of Sale the road would have continued northeastwards to end at M63 J8 (present M60J6). At the time there were plans for the A6144 to continue ahead to - and beyond - the A5145 but these have been scrapped.
