Lathallan Interchange is junction 4 of the M9, lying immediately to the east of the Polmont suburb of Falkirk. It forms a slightly egg-shaped roundabout as it connects the two parallel routes of the M9 and A803 to the south, whose line was twisted away to the south to accommodate the motorway and junction. The wider base of the roundabout also allows the A801 to join, a road which was designed as a new-build strategic link between the M9 and the M8. To the north, a minor route skirts round a landfill site to reach the golf course and ski centre.
Immediately to the west of the main interchange lies another small roundabout on the A803, built to provide access for a development site which has, as yet, not commenced. Between the two junctions, and with access only to the westbound A803, another minor road turns south and runs parallel to the A801, eventually reaching Falkirks southern suburbs. This road also provides access to Lathallan Farm, from which the junction takes its name.
History
Before the motorway came, the A803 had been the A9, and the only junction here was a staggered crossroads with the two minor roads noted above.
