Dennyloanhead Roundabout

The junction at Dennyloanhead is a mini roundabout between the A803 and A872. However, it used to be somewhat more important than it is now, as the A80 used to pass through this junction before the bypass opened in 1964. The layout of the junction means that the former line of the A80, from A802 Glasgow Road to A872 Denny Road is still the straight-through route, with the A803 Bonnybridge Road effectively TOTSOing, although the mini roundabout makes this less of an issue.

Before the A80 bypass was built, the junction used to be much larger, and form a triangle. The other side of the triangle, imaginatively named 'Bypass Road', lies to the east and appears to have been built in the 1930s and is still open to traffic, but now unclassified. It allows for turning from the A872 onto the eastern arm of the A803, and vice-versa, although longer distance traffic will mostly use the A883 further east again. Rather curiously, Bypass Road was numbered as the A803, while the mainline along Bonnybridge Road was the A876, almost a useless multiplex. The current numbering at the junction has been in place since 1964 when the A80 bypass route opened.
