Camelon Roundabout is a small urban junction where the A803 and A9 meet at Camelon to the west of Falkirk. The two routes then multiplex eastwards on a dualled route towards Falkirk town centre. Rather curiously, despite the route of this multiplex having originally been numbered as the A9, when the A803 was extended to and beyond Falkirk, it took priority on the multiplex. This is despite it being the less important strategic route.
Historically a simple T junction, the roundabout was squeezed into the existing street space with a small island, and two narrow lanes on each approach. Redevelopment on the northern flank of the junction had enabled a little more space to be found, and had also allowed the eastbound A9/A803 to be dualled for the length of the multiplex, although this has partially been reduced to D1 with the inclusion of parking bays and turning lanes.
