South Shields is a coastal town in Tyneside near the mouth of the River Tyne.

History

Mill Dam Bypass

The new road ran from the Coronation Street / Station Road junction southwards to the then Commercial Road (just north of Tudor Road). In a 50 years ago article in the South Shields Daily Gazette (21 October 1988) it was reported that the bypass would open next week. Shields Daily News of 19 November 1938 reported on an inspection of the road by Leslie Burgin, Minister of Transport. It opened as part of B1302 but later became unclassified.
