The B1303 is a C-shaped road in South Shields town centre.
It starts at a roundabout on the A183 and then zigzags along Coston Drive and Mile End Road before turning left at a roundabout to meet the B1344 River Drive.
The B1303 then multiplexes south along the B1344 along River Drive to a point which is difficult to ascertain, given that this is a useless multiplex. It seems most likely that the B1344 ends by the Shields Ferry, considering that this was the original end of the B1302 and A19 (although neither of these roads now exist in this area).
Having regained its number, the B1303 continues south along Station Road to end on the A194 in High Shields.
The 1922 route of the B1303 was much less complicated. It started on the then-A19 King Street before heading north along the entire length of Mile End Road, to end on the River Drive on the river bank.
