The T8 was allocated to the main road between Enniscorthy and Rosslare.
When National Primary roads were introduced in 1977, the road became the N11 to Wexford, and the eastern end of the N25. Since then, the opening of the Wexford Bypass has caused the route through the town to be downgraded to a Regional Road.
