Junctions related to the A89

Terminus Roundabout lies to the east of Airdrie town centre at the historic crossroads between the A73 and the A89, which was the original route of the A8 between Edinburgh and Glasgow. The A73 also has a long history as an important route, originating as the main route between Stirling and the south. In many ways, therefore, since the constructions of Scotland's motorway network, this junction is quieter than it was in the past. The roundabout is a simple, and small four-arm junction, hemmed in by buildings at each corner. All of the approaches have two lanes to separate turning traffic, of which there is plenty.

The origins of the name of this junction are not obvious. It is suggestive of a railway terminus in the vicinity, but although two railway lines used to cross to the southwest of the junction, neither terminated here. The junction does, however, appear to have been the eastern terminus of the local tram network, latterly run by Glasgow Corporation Tramways. Initially a passing loop on a single line was located on Clark Street to the west, but when the line was doubled the reversing point was extended along Forrest Street some distance to the east of the junction.
