Parkhead appears at the top of signage approaching the crossroads between the A89 and B763 in the Parkhead area of Eastern Glasgow. The signs in question refer to parking in the area, and are probably related to matchday traffic for the nearby Celtic Park Football ground. However, it appears that the junction is now referred to locally as Parkhead, or a variation thereof. The junction is a spacious signalised crossroads where all four arms are S4 with traffic islands on the approach; only Millerston Street, the northern arm of the B763, reduces to a wide single carriageway in the vicinity of the junction. Segregated left turn lanes are provided in and out of the western arm of the A89.
The surrounding area has undergone substantial redevelopment in the last 20 or so years, with the large Forge Retail Park to the north east of the junction, accessed from Parkhead Roundabout, and other commercial premises to the south east. To the west, modern residential development consists mostly of large blocks of low and mid rise flats.
