Armadale Cross is a signalised crossroads lying at the heart of the small town of Armadale in West Lothian. For centuries, it lay on the main road between Glasgow and Edinburgh, which became the A8 in 1922. However, a few years later, as motorised transport rapidly increased, the new Glasgow and Edinburgh Road was built to the south, and the old route was renumbered as the A89, which it remains today. The north south route was equally important in many ways, as it ran north to the county town of Linlithgow, connecting the town to the southern parts of the county. This route became the A706 in 1922, but has also been downgraded, this time in the 1980s when the A706 was usurped by the new A801 to the east. The route is now the B8084.

Today, therefore, most of the traffic passing through the junction is relatively local, particularly as it lies at the heart of the town centre, with shops all around. The street names belie the historic significance of the junction, with the A89 following East and West Main Street, each wide enough to provide two turning lanes on the approaches. The B8084 uses North and South Street, which carry lower traffic volumes, so are lined for just one approach lane.
