Coatbridge Roundabout is the northern end of the A725, where it meets the A89. The roundabout lies to the south east of Coatbridge town centre, with both routes having been re-routed a little to meet the junction. It is a four arm junction, with the A725 approaching from the south east as a dual carriageway, gaining a third lane on the approach. The A89 is effectively an east-west route, and while a standard single carriageway in either direction, it too gains three lanes on the approaches for turning traffic. The fourth arm heads north west and is the B804 which gains a second lane on the approach, but soon narrows as it winds across Main Street, past the end of the town's pedestrianised shopping area. There is also a slip lane onto the eastern arm of the A89, approximately following the original line of Main Street.
The current roundabout dates from the 1970s or early 80s, and replaced two separate T junctions. The western one largely survives, where the B804 curves north onto Dunbeth Road, the pedestrianised Main Street is the old route of the A89. The eastern T junction is less obvious. The A725 originally continued straight ahead on Coatbank Street. This passed McDonalds to meet the A89 where it begins to curve towards the roundabout. A stub of the old A725 remains here, accessing McDonalds, but the junction has been grassed over.
