Kilpunt Roundabout marks the eastern end of the Broxburn Bypass. In 1922, the A8 passed through the town, but by 1932 the bypass route was open, and by 1936 the A8 was using the new road, with the A899 number assigned to the old road through the town. With the opening of the M8 in c1970, the town was bypassed a second time and the A89 extended along the former line of the A8 towards Edinburgh. Prior to the construction of the current roundabout, maps show the junction as a simple fork.
Today, therefore, it is the A89 and A899 which meet at Kilpunt Roundabout, the two routes forming a tight fork to the west. All three roads are wide on the approaches, with two turning lanes leading to 1 / 2 spiralled circulatory lanes.
