Toll Roundabout is a large four armed roundabout on the A705 to the west of Livingston new town. It also marks the southern end of the short A779, which heads north west to reach the M8 motorway. Until 2002, the fourth arm, that for the eastern part of the A705, departed directly opposite the western arm, as it followed Old Cousland Road through to Mill Roundabout to the east. However, in 2002 the new link road to the south east of the roundabout was opened, diverting the A705 onto a short section of the B7015, via a busy signalised T junction, thus removing the previously free-flowing nature of the route through the town. Further east, Cousland Road is future proofed for dualling. However, it does not appear that Old Cousland Road was ever expected to be dualled as far as Toll Roundabout, and certainly not to the west. The A779 does, however, appear to run through a formation which is wide enough for dualling, although now heavily overgrown.
The roundabout takes its name from the old Toll Cottage a short distance to the east on Old Cousland Road and therefore now, ironically, cut off from the roundabout itself!
