The C48 runs south from the A849 at Pennyghael, crossing from the north to south coast of the Ross of Mull. For the most part it follows Glen Leidle, before crossing a low pass and plunging down to the shore at Carsaig. The route comes to an end at the old pier, but a track continues east along the shore to Lochbuie.
