Fullarton Roundabout lies on the A737 immediately to the south of Irvine town centre and is one of several roundabout providing access to the shopping centre car parks and neighbouring retail park. It is also the southern end of the dualled Northern Approach Road, which opened in 1974 as a bypass for the old town centre area of the New Town. To the south of the roundabout, the A737 is a single carriageway, but there appears to be room to dual most of Fullarton Street as far as the Merryvale Roundabout, as it either has a service road alongside, or is wide with parking and wide verges.
The roundabout itself is yet another example of unfulfilled New Town planning. While it has four approaches, the only exits are onto the two arms of the A737. The approach from the south west is one-way, although the footbridge a short distance from the roundabout is clearly wide enough for a second carriageway, or at least a westbound lane, that was never built. Opposite it, the fourth arm is the exit from a service road to the shopping centre, and also served one of the riverside tower blocks, which was recently demolished.
