Paisley Road Toll is a signalised fork junction on the A8 to the south west of Glasgow city centre. The A8, Paisley Road, to the east towards the city centre is essentially an S4, although parked cars often mean only one lane in either direction is usable. The two routes to the west are both of a similar width, but lined as standard single carriageway with parking bays, albeit with two lanes for queueing traffic on the approaches. There used to be a fourth arm to the south, Admiral Street, but this has long since been closed up. Despite being a relatively sharp fork, there are no banned movements at the junction.
History
When first classified in 1922, the A8 came out of the city centre on Paisley Road as it still does, and kinked right at the junction to follow Govan Road through the docks area. The western part of Paisley Road was the A737, which was extended east, via a multiplex with the A8 in 1936. In the early 1960s, the A8 was rerouted away from the docks onto its present route, which leaves Paisley Road further west at Ibrox. The former route of the A8 was renumbered as the B860, although this was relatively short lived, and the route is now unclassified.
