Approaching from the south on the B715

Headless Cross is the junction of the A71 and the B715 to the south east of Stane, Shotts. It is a skewed crossroads with the B715 crossing the main road at an angle. Despite the A71 being a busy route, the junction remains a straight crossroads without turning lanes on the A71 or signals, which is unusual in the local area. The only concession for turning traffic is a short slip road in the north west corner for traffic turning between the western A71 and northern part of the B715.

For many years this was the northern terminus of the B715, but the route was extended the short distance north to meet the B7010 in the mid 1950s. This junction is now a TOTSO, giving priority to traffic between Shotts and Headless Cross, with the road to Fauldhouse having to give way.
