Roads in the town are very congested in summer months, due to high traffic and unsuitable nature, so a Park and Ride car park was built at Lelant Saltings station, by the A30 in order to remove traffic from the town. However, this car park proved too small for all the holidaymakers wishing to use it and it was replaced with a larger faciliy built at the start of the St. Ives branch line at St. Erth Station. This is also a mainline station.
The A3074 and B3306 into the town have restrictions during the hours of 9.30 am to 4pm "Except for permitted vehicles". This would stop anyone amongst other things from reaching the railway station and Island car parks. It is not clear what counts for this permission but it does seem to be not enforced and widely ignored.
