Launceston is a town and primary destination in Cornwall, close to the boundary with Devon. It is the first primary destination in Cornwall on the A30 heading west (or the last, heading east). The other main roads are the A388 heading north / south across the Devon / Cornwall border, and the A395 which links the town to the A39 Atlantic Corridor.
The town has been bypassed several times. The first attempt was a simple upgrade of existing roads in the 1940s. A more comprehensive bypass opened on 31 March 1976.
