Westmorland and Furness Council is the Highway Authority for all roads in the local authority area from its creation on 1 April 2023, with the exception of trunk roads, which are managed by National Highways.
The area administered by the council is, despite the name, not just the county of Westmorland and the Furness area of Lancashire, but also the Sedburgh area of the West Riding of Yorkshire and the Penrith and Alston areas of Cumberland.
