The B6262 connects the A6 and A66 to the south of Penrith, but it is by no means a short cut.
The road is often narrow, tree-lined and has a large double bend about half way along making it slower than the main roads, especially eastbound. At the western end a footbridge crosses the road, linking the small village of Brougham, or more accurately Brougham Hall, with the parish church. At the eastern end, a crossroads gives access to Brougham Castle, and then the road terminates at an at-grade junction with the dualled A66 at the point where that road once diverted from its current course to cross the old Brougham Castle Bridge.
