The A76 was created from part of the B76, to link Lurgan with the M1.
The road starts in the centre of Lurgan, at a roundabout with Shankhill Parish Church in the centre, where it meets the A3. The B12 is met yards afterwards at traffic lights and the A76 TOTSOs left (traffic heading the other way continues ahead to the roundabout).
The A76 heads northwestwards along William Street and soon reaches a level crossing on the Belfast to Dublin railway line. Lurgan station is immediately to the right. The road then continues along the residential Lough Road. This is dead-straight until, after traffic lights on the edge of town, the road zigzags slightly to the right; this detour was put in when the motorway was built and the B76 continued in a straight line.
After passing a modern housing estate we reach a roundabout, where the A76 ends at M1 J10. The road ahead is the B76.
