Ballinteer Interchange – that is to say, junction 13 of the M50 in County Dublin. It serves the Ballinteer, Sandyford and Dundrum suburbs of Dublin, including the large shopping centre.
The junction was opened in July 2001, as part of the M50 Southern Cross Route from Tallaght. It is built in two halves, with a dumbbell arrangement to the west and a roundabout interchange to the east, connected by two link roads.
A small roundabout was provided at Murphystown Road, and Brewery Road and Leopardstown Road were improved to provide access to the N11. To the west, Brehon Field Road and Ballinteer Road formed part of the new 'Green Route'.
This complex arrangement wraps around the next junction. The slip roads facing the south-east didn't open until 2005, when the M50 was extended towards Cherrywood. This is despite a small extension happening within the junction - allowing access to Sandyford without using the link roads - which opened in 2004.
Between 1965 and the late 1990s, this area was intended to be terminus of the M50 'box' motorway. It would have met the M11, which would have continued towards Booterstown.
During the planning of the M50, this was called Ticknock Interchange. It is known locally as Southern Cross Roundabout, after the working title for the M50, or simply as the Dundrum exit. TII, who are responsible for the road, call it Dundrum.
