County Dublin lies on the east coast of Ireland, in the province of Leinster and the Dublin Region of the Republic of Ireland (the historic county and the modern Regional Authority area are coterminous). It includes, of course, Dublin – the country's capital city – and, with a total of 1,273,069 inhabitants (2011), the county is home to more than a quarter of the republic's population.
