The C23 forms a mostly urban route through Paisley and Elderslie. Starting in Paisley, the road follows Foxbar Road from the B775, Gleniffer Road. The road meets the C69 twice as the latter splits onto Amochrie Road and Brediland Road to the north. Briefly winding northwards through countryside at Glenpatrick, the road ends on the B789 at the eastern side of Elderslie.
