The N83 is a 50-km-long loop off the N17 in western Ireland, providing an alternative itinerary between Tuam and Ireland West Airport, running via Ballyhaunis instead of Claremorris. All of the current N83 – except for a kilometre at its Tuam end and 2 km between Tavrane National School and Glentavraun at its northern terminus – had earlier been a part of the T11, which in its day was the more important of the two routes.
In September 2017, the road was extended to Galway over the former N17, as the new motorway saw Atlantic Coast and Galway Commuter traffic separated.
