The A6115 was the northern half of the former A1 bypassed by the Welwyn bypass. It existed from 1927 when Welwyn was bypassed, to 1973 when the A1(M) was built over its northern end.
The original line of the A1 turned right by St Mary's church in Welwyn town centre from the High Street into Church Street. On construction of the A1 bypass the A600 took over the former and so the A6115 started by the church. It headed northeastwards along Church Street and then Roman Road to end back on the A1 where the A1(M) now runs.
Church Street still exists, although the road has been rerouted to serve the current B656 northern bypass. North of here the ex-A6115 is a private road serving residential properties.
