The A6171 is listed in the DfT Card Index as Gateshead (Albert Street and Ann Street.).
This road is difficult to follow on the ground today as Albert Street was demolished in the 1980s and the Civic Centre has been built on top; most of Ann Street still exists but is now a cul-de-sac and only provides access to a couple of buildings. It is likely that the A6171 was short-lived.
The road started on the A6127 (former A1) High Street and headed west along Ann Street. The road soon crossed High West Street to run along Albert Street to the A6125 Prince Consort Road, where the road ended.
