Grade Separated Junction • Temporary terminus |
Flare is the term used for when a junction (usually a roundabout) has carriageways which separate widely before the junction. The carriageways separate in this way because the junction is designed with future proofing, allowing for future grade separation.
Examples of roundabouts which have been flared include Countess Roundabout on the A303, and Longbridge Island on the A46.
