Leighton Buzzard, together with Leighton Linslade, form a hub in the road network. The layout of classified roads in the area has changed a lot over the years. The southern bypass was built with a trunk road from Oxford to the East Coast Ports of Harwich and Felixstowe in mind, but the problems with the Wing Bypass got in the way. The western bypass, which was built as a Bucks CC scheme opened in 2007, was the scene of road protests.
