The ZC11 forms a lengthy route through south east Edinburgh. It starts on the A702, Comiston Road, and heads east along Braid Hills Road as it crosses the golf course to reach the A701 at Liberton. Turning North east, it follows Kirkgate and Mount Vernon Road round to the A772, and then passes another golf course on Kingston Avenue to reach the A7. After a dogleg to the right, the route continues along Craigmillar Castle Road as it turns north round the park to cross the A6095. Duddingston Road West then takes it past more golf courses as it passes through the southern parts of Holyrood Park, turning east once more to cross the A1.
At the far end of Duddingston Road, the ZC11 crosses the A6106 and A199 in quick succession as it enters Edinburghs seaside resort of Portobello. After running down Brighton Place, the route comes to an end on the B6415, Portobello High Street. Bath Street continues ahead the short distance to the promenade and beach.
