Along with the A360, the A365 provides a handy alternative to the A36, with the added bonus in that it actually puts you on the right side of the Batheaston bypass without having to plough through the centre of Bath.
The road starts at a "Y" junction with the A361 at the bottom of the hill west of Devizes, crossing the Kennett and Avon Canal almost immediately. It then heads west, parallel to the canal, before reaching the outskirts of Melksham, where there's a whole maze of roundabouts and new housing estates. It meets the A350 at a roundabout and multiplexes with it along the "bypass", before heading off to the left at the station. The old A365 through Melksham has now been declassified.
From there it's a short run through some more villages up to Box, where it terminates on the A4 at a set of traffic lights. Along the way, the B3353 turns off right to Corsham, and then it crosses the B3109 at the traffic-light-controlled 'fiveways' junction.
