The B3100 was originally allocated to New Park Street in Devizes, a road passing north of – and thereby allowing through traffic to avoid – the market place. Today, the road forms a part of the main A361 route through the town.
By the 1960s, the B3100 appears to have been moved to Brittox, still in the centre of Devizes. This route runs at right angles to the original alignment, but it seems unlikely that the two roads were simultaneously the B3100. Brittox had originally been the A342, so it seems that the two routes were swapped.
