The A5280 is an A road that appears on OS Mapping from 2017 and current signage on the Burtonwood Roundabout as a relatively new distributor road, around the North-West of Warrington, immediately south of the M62. The route serves mainly the Omega South industrial area, as well as Lingley Mere Business Park, some housing, and a high school and leisure centre, in Northern Great Sankey.
Route Outline
From the Burtonwood Interchange, the road begins entering Omega South as Skyline Drive – (as of 2020) a four-lane single-carriageway with double-solid centre lines and a 40mph limit. It twists then heads Westbound. After its first roundabout serving Domino's pizza, the lanes merge into a two-lane single carriageway. It continues up to a roundabout serving the HUT group and a truck bio-refuelling station, where unless you're a lorry planning to use either, you must TOTSO left.
The road then becomes Omega Boulevard, Southbound. The first (third) roundabout serves the Royal Mail on the right and an empty plot of land on the left. The next (fourth) roundabout serves Plastic Omnium, another Royal Mail apparently, and an Amazon Warehouse, on the left via Orion Boulevard. On the right is a Northern access point for Lingley Mere Business (office) Park. The end of Orion Boulevard is meant to link pedestrians and cyclists to the new Airlift Park. To the right of the end of this road, the next road is severed off, but would otherwise lead to an adjacent primary school and residential area (apparently they didn't want articulated lorries going past a primary school).
Roundabout at which the route TOTSOs onto Lingley Green Ave
Continuing Southbound, the speed limit drops to 30mph, and the road enters a residential area. After passing a former entrance to Lingley Mere Business Park (the East half of which went from empty land to being lathered in housing), a roundabout is reached. Forward lands you on Barrow Hall Lane – an older road coated in speed humps, cushions and tables, passing a high school, heading into more historic Great Sankey. Left is the tertiary stretch of Lingley Green Avenue towards Whittle Avenue (A5281). Right, the route TOTSOs into Lingley Green Avenue Westbound.
The road then passes a relatively new traffic light junction with turning lanes, added retroactively to serve Great Sankey High School's car parks and the Leisure Centre (the traffic was previously routed through the now-severed Billington Close, off a mini roundabout on Barrow Hall Lane). Continuing, it reaches a roundabout where right serves Lingley Mere Business Park as the main entrance; Lingley Green Avenue along with the route must TOTSO left and head Southbound via a final roundabout for Park Road, serving the residential Lingley Green. At the end of the route, the A57 is reached at a signalised T-junction, next to the Trigger Pond pub, almost on the very edge of the Warrington Borough.
