The original B5180 ran east from Liverpool.
It started on the A5047 at Broad Green, then on the eastern edge of the Liverpool urban area. It headed east via Huyton and Cronton and passed to the north of Farnworth. It ended on the A562 at Penketh, which at that time separate from Warrington.
The road was quickly upgraded to Class I status. It had become the A5080 by 1932, which it remains.
