Kings Worthy Interchange is at the northern end of the original Winchester Bypass. Originally a crossroads, the A34 was added to the junction in 1969.
As the A33 has been bypassed by the M3, the A34 has become the mainline, effectively creating a rare right exit. However, due to the rarity of such a layout, a lane drop exists. A bottleneck is created by this lane drop briefly putting A34 traffic into just one lane.
