In the 1960s the A4141 Oxford Southern Bypass through North Hinksey became part of the A34, and was extended north of here. A small roundabout was provided north of Botley ("Botley Roundabout"), with a link road heading back to the village.
In the 1970s the A420 was given a full bypass of Botley, and met the existing link road just north of here. The new crossing of the A34 was provided as a free-flowing interchange, with the old roundabout closed.
