Midlothian Council is the Highway Authority for all the roads in the Council Area (which covers a different area to the historic county of Midlothian, except the A68, A702, A720 and motorways which are managed by Transport Scotland. As of 2016, Government Statistics say that the council is responsible for 49.1 miles of A roads; 52 miles of B roads and 303.9 miles of other roads. There is an additional 22.4 miles of Trunk roads within the council area, which are maintained by Transport Scotland.
