East Lothian Council is the Highway Authority for the vast majority of the roads in the small historic county of East Lothian as well as that part of Midlothian around Musselburgh, with the exceptions of parts of the A1, A68 and A720 which are maintained by Transport Scotland. As of 2016, Government Statistics say that the council is responsible for 63.2 miles of A roads; 103.2 miles of B roads and 481.2 miles of other roads. There is an additional 39.6 miles of Trunk roads within the council area, which are maintained by Transport Scotland.

Highways Management

East Lothian Road Services carries out the day-to day maintenance of approximately 571.7 miles (920km) of roads and pavements and a wide-ranging programme of road network and resurfacing work throughout East Lothian.
