The A704 is a short connecting route cutting off the southeast corner between the A71 and the A706.
Woodmuir Plantation
The route starts at a fork junction on the A71 between West Calder and Addiewell, from where it heads southwestwards. There are a couple of junctions as the road start to climb gently across fields, but these soon give way to forest. As the road climbs around a sharp double bend, the fields to the south were briefly excavated for open cast coal mining. Despite works only starting in 2012, the project was short lived and the landscape has now been restored. After running alongside the Longford Burn for a while, the forest is fully entered next to a small car park, and from here the route has a largely straight path through Woodmuir Plantation. The road leaves the forestry quite abruptly, emerging onto the moors in the middle of a windfarm. A short distance later it reaches a T-junction on the A706. Turn left for Lanark; or right back to the A71.
